We have a new technology lab at Oak Ridge in room 248 along with our technology lab in the portables! The room was remodeled last summer by our outstanding maintenance crew, with brand new tile, painted walls, computer tables and 4 beautiful butcher block tables for students use.
The new lab has 27 new Windows 10 desktop computers, a Promethean Board and a Chromebook cart. So far students have enjoyed using the computers and butcher block tables to write, collaborate and meet as teams.
Grades 3, 4 and 5 students are practicing their typing skills, learning how to use Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets. Grade 5 is wrapping up a unit on Internet Researching, how to spot “Fake Websites” and how to bookmark links. Students completed the Hour of Code Challenge and will be learning program coding using Scratch.mit.edu and Sphero.edu.
So far this year Grade 6 has learned about Engineering, Engineering Careers, and the Design Process along with completing the Toxic Popcorn and Invisible Helmet challenges. They are currently learning how to use measuring tools and write Architectural measurements. They have looked at floor plans and learned about the importance of area and perimeter measurements. They will be creating their own floor plans and documenting measurements soon.
This year has gotten off to an exciting start looking forward to the second half of the year!
